Monte Brione

Summary

Fauna-Flora-Habitat area within the Natura 2000 network. The protected area covers the highest part of the characteristic limestone hill located at the centre of the broad valley floor between Arco and Lake Garda. It is characterised by holm oak scrub, patches of dry grassland (partly in rocky environments), and a section of the olive grove covering the western side of the hill. The area is also a Provincial Nature Reserve and is one of the protected areas that make up the Sarca River Park.

Description

The presence of a sub-Mediterranean climate favours the development of particularly distinctive vegetation for the Alpine region, with holm oak woodland and olive groves being the most prominent features. Several notable botanical rarities should also be mentioned. The site is also of significant importance for the nesting, stopover and/or wintering of protected bird species, species experiencing significant population declines, and/or species with a localised distribution in the Alps. **Priority Habitat 6210: spectacular flowering of orchids.**
