The Wölferlinger Weiher, a historic impoundment from the 17th century, is a protected nature reserve nestled within the Westerwälder Seenplatte. Established as a reserve in 1979, it plays a vital role in preserving the region's biodiversity. This unique wetland habitat is home to various rare bird species and serves as a sanctuary for specific endangered plants, including Jacob's Ladder and the Lesser Butterfly-orchid. Its distinct shallow water zones and extensive swamp areas at the edges are crucial for these sensitive ecosystems. Historically, the Weiher is one of seven such impoundments created by Graf Friedrich III. zu Wied, adding to its cultural significance.
