Vulkan Kalem Nature Reserve, nestled near Birresborn in Germany's Vulkaneifel, spans approximately 40 hectares. This captivating area protects a remarkable ancient Pleistocene stratovolcano, showcasing a distinctive semi-circular basalt ring. Visitors can marvel at a powerful 40-meter thick lava flow and impressive lava and basalt outcrops, revealing the region's dynamic geological history. The reserve is part of a landscape rich in natural beauty, with the Schlimmbach and Kyll rivers flowing nearby, and adjacent to other significant protected areas like Im Felst bei Birresborn and Hundsbachtal.
