The Stixwörth nature reserve is situated northeast of Neuburg am Rhein, directly alongside the flowing Rhine, and adjoins the Polder Daxlander Au and Goldgrund nature reserve to the north. Its primary purpose is the preservation of its riparian forest areas, including the enclosed old Rhine channel and former channels. These vital areas encompass mature tree stands, silting zones, as well as extensive reed and sedge beds, all within the Rhine's floodplain. These diverse biotopes serve as essential habitats for rare plant species and unique plant communities, while also providing a crucial environment for various rare animal species.
