Summary
The Obig den Scharren nature reserve near Peffingen is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. The 4.7-hectare nature reserve was declared a nature reserve in 1987 and is located south-east of the village of Peffingen. The Prüm flows to the west of the area. The aim of nature conservation is to preserve the almost vegetation-free Keuper grasslands and the extensively used calcareous grasslands with neighbouring bushes and orchards. These provide an important habitat for numerous thermophilic, highly endangered animal and plant species - especially many insect species - and promote the diversity of their biocoenoses.
