Description
The Weissbachtal nature reserve preserves a valuable landscape featuring a near-natural stream, extensive wet grasslands, and vital adjacent forests acting as buffer and development zones. Key protected elements include nationally endangered Nardus grasslands and oat-grass meadows, as well as diverse wet and damp meadows, spring mires, meadowsweet tall herb communities, and stream-side alder and willow copses. These varied habitats provide crucial living spaces for a rich array of flora and fauna. The area is home to rare species such as the Great Crested Newt, the Dusky Large Blue butterfly, and impressive birds like the Kingfisher, Great Grey Shrike, Red-backed Shrike, Red Kite, Common Snipe, Whinchat, and Meadow Pipit. This reserve serves as an important refuge for many specialized and endangered species dependent on these specific habitats.
