Description

Urdenbacher Kaempen is a vital Rhine floodplain landscape, preserving extensive wet grasslands, reed beds, and rare soft and hard wood riparian forests. This Natura 2000 site is crucial for its natural flood dynamics and as a climate regulation area. It provides essential habitats for numerous species, including the elusive black kite, vibrant kingfisher, melodious nightingale, and unique great crested newt. The area also supports diverse fish populations like the European river lamprey and spined loach in its natural oxbow lakes and the Garather Mühlenbach. Beyond its rich biodiversity, the Kaempen showcases a beautiful old agricultural landscape with ancient trees, hedges, traditional hay meadows, and orchards, reflecting centuries of natural and human history.
