Description

The Rotbach- und Bruchbachtal Nature Reserve preserves a unique natural and cultural landscape. It safeguards a near-natural flowing water system with meandering streams, bordered by alder carr and riparian forests, along with diverse woody vegetation. Adjacent wet and damp meadows, Arrhenatherum grasslands, and extensively used pastures provide essential buffer zones. On the south-facing slopes, species-rich calcareous grasslands thrive with diverse biotope structures, shaped by the interplay of Bunter sandstone and Muschelkalk limestone. This mosaic-like landscape serves as a crucial habitat and refuge for numerous endangered animal species, including birds, insects (like butterflies), amphibians, reptiles, and various benthic organisms, as well as specific plant communities. The valleys are distinguished by their exceptional beauty and the structurally rich stream morphology, featuring undercut and slip-off slopes, and varied stream bed substrates like rock, gravel, and sand.
