Die Schutzausweisung erfolgt zur Erhaltung und Entwicklung eines wertvollen Hangquellmoores mit Vegetations- und Faunenelementen der Feuchtheide, zur Bewahrung und Entwicklung von Lebensstätten bedrohter Tier- und Pflanzenarten sowie zur Erforschung der weiteren Entwicklung eines atlantischen Heidemoores im Oberbergischen Land.
