Description

NSG Kalltal is a significant nature reserve preserving a pristine section of the Kall river and its diverse surroundings. This area features vital habitats such as flowing waters with underwater vegetation, transition and quaking bogs, and a mix of wet grasslands and birch swamp forests. It offers sanctuary to endangered species like the beaver, kingfisher, and greater mouse-eared bat. Other important inhabitants include the pond bat, whinchat, and rare plants like marsh gentian, bog asphodel, marsh cinquefoil, and bogbean. The reserve contributes to a crucial biotope network between the Vennhochfläche and the Kalltal, safeguarding numerous Red List species and a variety of rare biotope types, including natural stream sections, fens, and riparian forests. It is an integral part of the European Natura 2000 protection network.
