Description

The Kalktriften Willebadessen is a significant nature reserve dedicated to preserving and developing valuable calcareous semi-dry grasslands. These species-rich habitats have been shaped over centuries by traditional grazing. The area is a hotspot for over 50 butterfly species, including the rare Alcon Blue, which is closely linked to the Marsh Gentian. Endangered gentian and orchid species also thrive here. This protected area is also a vital habitat for bird species such as the Red-backed Shrike and the Grey Partridge. Its importance spans scientific, natural, and earth-historical aspects, as well as its unique biogeographical value and outstanding beauty. As part of the "Kalkmagerrasen bei Willebadessen" FFH area (Natura 2000), it safeguards calcareous grasslands (Festuco-Brometalia), mesophile herb communities, nutrient-poor pastures, thermophilic scrub, and shallow, extensively cultivated calcareous fields.
