The Kalksumpf und Teich im Haehnenbachtal nature reserve is a vital part of the European Natura 2000 network, dedicated to preserving unique natural environments. This area safeguards rare calcareous tufa springs and alkaline fens, which are crucial habitats. It protects a valuable calcareous fen, a rare ecosystem supporting endangered, specialized plants such as Broad-leaved Cotton-grass, Autumn Crocus, and Fringed Gentian. A near-natural pond with its transitional zones and tall herbaceous vegetation also provides a key habitat for various specialized species, including amphibians and dragonflies.
