Die Schutzausweisung erfolgt zur Erhaltung, Entwicklung und Wiederherstellung artenreicher Borstgrasrasen sowie von mit Gehölzstrukturen durchsetzten Magerwiesen und -weiden mit ihrer charakteristischen Vegetation und Fauna unter Einbeziehung ausreichend großer, nährstoffarmer Pufferzonen. Das Naturschutzgebiet beinhaltet Lebensräume, die im Sinne des europaweiten Schutzgebietssystems Natura 2000 nach der Richtlinie 92/43/EWG zu schützen sind.
