The NSG Gelaengebachtal, situated west and southwest of Medebach, is a significant natural area in North Rhine-Westphalia. It safeguards an exceptional grassland biotope, vital for numerous threatened plant species and their distinctive communities. This reserve provides essential habitats for shrike species, specifically the Great Grey Shrike and Red-backed Shrike, which are key indicator species within the European Bird Sanctuary 'Medebacher Bucht'. The protected landscape encompasses valuable hay meadows (Glatthaferwiesen) and fen meadows characterized by Great Burnet (Wiesenknopf-Silgenwiesen).
