Summary
NSG Gambach preserves a valuable stream ecosystem and its riparian zones within the Siegen-Wittgenstein district. It protects diverse wetland habitats, flora, and fauna, contributing to regional biodiversity.
Description
The Gambach nature reserve in Siegen-Wittgenstein safeguards a unique stream landscape and its surrounding riparian zones. This area is vital for maintaining the natural flow and structure of the Gambach stream itself, along with its associated wet meadows and alder carrs. These varied habitats provide essential refuge for a rich diversity of plants and animals. The reserve specifically protects rare and endangered species typical of stream and wetland environments, including amphibians, dragonflies, and specialized plant communities. Its significance lies in preserving the ecological integrity of the stream system and contributing significantly to the regional network of protected areas, ensuring the long-term health of this natural heritage.
