NSG Brueckborn, Kranzbruch protects valuable wetlands, including bogs, fens, and wet grasslands. It's a haven for beavers, kingfishers, whinchats, and rare plants like marsh gentian. A vital ecological corridor.
The Brueckborn, Kranzbruch nature reserve preserves a mosaic of rare wetlands in the Aachen region. It features transitional and quaking bogs, as well as moist heathlands and wet grassland fallows. The primary goal is to maintain these valuable habitats and restore degraded raised bogs. This area serves as a crucial refuge for endangered species. Protected animals include the beaver, greater mouse-eared bat, kingfisher, and whinchat. Rare insects like the cranberry fritillary and plants such as marsh gentian, bog asphodel, bog rosemary, and cranberry also thrive here. The reserve acts as a vital biotope network connecting the Vennhochfläche and the Kalltal, encompassing particularly rare and endangered habitat types according to the NRW Biotope Cadastre.
