Description

The Nebel nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern safeguards an extensive, largely unspoiled 18-kilometer section of the Nebel river valley, along with its ecologically crucial adjacent forest and meadow landscapes. Its primary purpose is to maintain and restore the natural dynamics of the watercourse, ensuring a pristine environment for local flora and fauna. The reserve is also designated as a Natura 2000 site, comprising both an FFH-area for important habitats and species, and a Special Protection Area (SPA) for wild birds. Ongoing efforts focus on minimizing external nutrient and pollutant inputs to support undisturbed ecological development. The area is characterized by its biodiversity, fostered by the protected floodplain landscape, forests, and the river's dynamics. Cultural points of interest in the vicinity include the historic watermill near Kuchelmiß and the striking breakthrough valley north of Lake Krakow.
