Located in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, Haardtrand – Geraide is a protected nature reserve known for its scenic beauty and ecological richness. Covering 23 hectares along the eastern edge of the low mountain range, the area showcases a variety of landscapes shaped by both nature and traditional land use. The reserve is home to vineyard terraces, dry stone walls, orchards, hedgerows, and forest edges — all typical of the region’s sun-favored terrain. These habitats support a remarkable diversity of wildlife, including around 40 bird species such as the cirl bunting, 19 types of grasshoppers, as well as several amphibians and reptiles. Designated as a nature reserve in 1991, Haardtrand – Geraide preserves the unique mosaic of cultural and natural elements that define the landscape of the Southern Wine Route district. It's a place where biodiversity and heritage meet in a setting shaped by centuries of careful cultivation and natural evolution.
