Established in 1992, the Haardtrand – Am Wingertsberg Nature Reserve in the Südliche Weinstraße district protects valuable habitats at the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest. It safeguards the typical biodiversity of the Haardtrand, a unique transition zone between forest and open landscape, shaped by a distinctive climate. The landscape of Wingertsberg, a historically utilized area, contributes significantly to its ecological and cultural importance. This reserve is home to specific plant communities and animal species adapted to these unique conditions. Its primary purpose is to preserve rare dry grasslands, shrub margins, and specific vineyard ecosystems, which serve as crucial refuges for numerous species.
