Description

The Großer und Kleiner Serrahn nature reserve preserves a distinctive moor landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This dynamic area formed from two reeded lakes, Kleiner Serrahn in the north and Großer Serrahn to the south. It's recognized for its ecological value as a growing moor, characterized by a network of drainage ditches connecting it westward towards the Goldberger See. This protected area is an integral part of the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide Nature Park and holds significant status under EU law as both a Habitats Directive (FFH) and Bird Protection Area. Its primary purpose is to safeguard this unique moor ecosystem. While largely inaccessible, an observation tower near Sandhof provides opportunities to appreciate the expansive landscape and its natural beauty from a distance.
