The 16-hectare conservation area essentially consists of an area of heathland with six Neolithic and Bronze Age burial sites. Pine and birch-oak forests can be found in the peripheral areas. The aim of the conservation area is to preserve the near-natural gorse-sand heath communities and the culturally and historically significant burial sites. In the center of the area, the Stone Age burial sites, the so-called “Glaner Braut”, can be found on a slight hill.
According to the Federal Nature Conservation Act, a nature reserve is a legally designated area in which special protection of nature and landscape is required for the conservation or restoration of ecosystems, for scientific reasons or because of their rarity, uniqueness or beauty. Actions that could lead to changes or even damage to the nature reserve are prohibited.
