Summary
Nature reserves constitute one of the most important conservation categories in Germany and Austria. The exact definitions vary, but together they combine the conservation of natural landscape, the protection of endangered species and the preservation for scientific interests.
Description
Das Gebiet ist ein rund 1.800 ha großer entwässerter, ehemaliger Bruchwald in der Jeetzelniederung. Es weist sehr naturnahe Waldbestände aus Nadelholz und Laubholz mit guten Altholzbeständen auf. Es handelt sich um historisch alten Wald im Eigentum der Landesforstverwaltung. Der Wald wird als Naturwirtschaftswald und als lichter Wald auf grundwassernahen Standorten bewirtschaftet. Anlass zur NSG-Ausweisung im Jahre 1951 war das Brutvorkommen des Kranichs. Die Lucie ist ein bedeutendes Gebiet für die Vogelwelt und für Schmetterlinge.
