Summary

A cave of significant environmental and faunal interest, used by several species of bats and rodents for wintering. It features unique erosional formations in the region. Also known as Patone Cave, it is located at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level on the western slope of Monte Stivo. It is one of the protected areas that make up the Sarca River Park.

Description

The cave opens into the Grey Limestone Formation and consists of a single large gallery, with distinctive erosional features and various formations attributed to two phases of speleothem development, one ancient and one recent. It contains small pools and a small perennial spring. The entrance is very large; once inside, the route descends among large boulders, leading to a narrower passage and then to the main gallery, with small chambers and mineral formations, eventually reaching the most significant siphon, blocked by sand. Beyond it lie larger chambers containing small pools and a perennial spring. It is a horizontal cave that does not require specific caving experience, but proper equipment is essential for visiting it, and visitors must be accompanied.
