The nature reserve Auf der First near Fusenich is an important retreat for specialised species and an important part of the regional natural landscape.
Description
The conservation area serves to preserve and develop species-rich calcareous grasslands in the southern part of the Bitburger Gutland. These nutrient-poor grasslands are particularly valuable habitats for numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species, including many orchid and butterfly species. The areas are characterised by a great variety of structures and also provide habitats for various bat species, which find roosts in the adjacent orchards, forest edges and former bunkers.
