Am Saarbacher Mühlweiher protects water & wetland areas, grasslands, and forest edges as vital habitats for rare plants and animals. The Saarbach flows through to the Mühlweiher. Designated for natural preservation and scientific study.
The nature reserve Am Saarbacher Mühlweiher in Rhineland-Palatinate encompasses diverse landscapes, including water and silting areas, along with other valuable wetlands. This is complemented by grasslands, succession areas, and natural forest edges. These unique biotopes are crucial for the protection and preservation of rare and endangered wild plant species and their communities. Simultaneously, the area provides an important habitat for various rare wild animal species. The Saarbach, which forms the upper course of the Sauer river, flows through the protected area from west to east before joining the Mühlweiher. Research here has identified the presence of both European crayfish and the invasive signal crayfish. The area is also protected for scientific reasons, aiming to preserve the natural processes and biodiversity of this special ecosystem.
