Descriptif

The Ennepe Valley Nature Reserve is dedicated to preserving a vital riverine ecosystem. It protects near-natural structures and the dynamic flow of the Ennepe river, supporting a rich diversity of wild and often endangered plant and animal species. This area is also significant for its unique cultural heritage, featuring numerous historical upper ditches and hammer ponds that are relics of early iron processing. Scientific and cultural-historical reasons highlight the valley's rarity, special character, and remarkable beauty. Efforts focus on restoring a natural stream valley by managing meadows, and specifically on maintaining and fostering diverse wet, moist, and dry grasslands, which are crucial habitats.
