The Lippeaue is an extensive, near-natural riverine landscape, forming a significant part of a supra-regional biotope network. The area focuses on the protection and development of diverse habitats. These include alder, ash, willow, and hardwood riparian forests, wet tall herb communities, flowing waters with submerged vegetation, grasslands, orchards, hedges, and old acidophilous oak forests. These structures are crucial for endangered animal species such as the Pond Bat, Great Crested Newt, River Lamprey, and Southern Damselfly. Furthermore, the Lippeaue is an important habitat for a rich variety of bird species, including breeding birds like the Kingfisher, Western Marsh Harrier, Corn Crake, Nightingale, Eurasian Golden Oriole, Northern Lapwing, and overwintering Smew, all contributing to the natural beauty and ecological significance of this floodplain landscape.
