The Dinkelaue with Oldemölls Venneken nature reserve safeguards a rich river floodplain landscape stretching along the Dinkel. It features expansive wet and damp grasslands, open water bodies, natural riparian forests, and wet meadows. This diverse mosaic provides irreplaceable habitats for rare and highly endangered wading and meadow birds, including the Eurasian Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, and Reed Warbler. The area is a crucial breeding, resting, and overwintering ground for these avian species. Additionally, the reserve protects unique plant communities, dwarf shrub and juniper heaths, sandy grasslands, and heath ponds.
