Lanken Nature Reserve, situated along the south coast of the Greifswald Bodden, encompasses a diverse and historically significant landscape. Its core features include a unique forested coastal dune and vital wet depressions in the eastern part, providing essential habitats for specialized plant and animal species. The area is also notable for its ancient pasture oaks (Hudewaldeichen), which are an important part of the cultural landscape and support diverse ecosystems, though facing challenges from encroaching conifers. A striking erratic boulder rests in the shade of a beech, adding a geological point of interest. The reserve's hydrological conditions were improved in 1993, contributing to the health of its wetlands. Lanken offers a glimpse into a distinctive coastal environment, protecting its specific vegetation, geological formations, and historical land use patterns for future generations.
