The Tongruben nature reserve near Niederprüm is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. The aim of the protection is to preserve, secure and develop the former clay pits and their surroundings as a secondary habitat for numerous rare and endangered wild animal and plant species and their biocoenoses - especially for biocoenoses that are adapted to open still water areas.
