Located within the Monte Baldo mountain group, the reserve covers 52 hectares in an environment predominantly characterized by alpine pastures. Like other areas of Monte Baldo, it is home to numerous uncommon or rare plant species with a very limited geographic distribution. The Reserve is included within the larger Monte Baldo di Brentonico Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Special Protection Area (SPA). The area also falls within the territory of the Monte Baldo Local Nature Park.

Corna Piana is a distinctive limestone ridge in the northern part of the Monte Baldo range, where the last stretches of beech forest give way to subalpine shrublands and, above all, pastures interspersed with rocky habitats. The reserve hosts several endemic botanical species. It is also an area of international importance for the migration of many medium- and long-distance migratory species during late summer and autumn. Bird species subject to special conservation measures include: golden eagle, red-backed shrike, rock partridge, black grouse, western marsh harrier, European honey buzzard, black kite, and ortolan bunting.
