Popis
The Sonderhorst Nature Reserve in Iserlohn safeguards a rich diversity of lime-typical habitats. These include valuable melic grass beech forests, species-rich semi-dry grasslands, and dense blackthorn bushes, providing a home for rare and endangered plant and animal species. A notable feature is the impressive quarry wall, which holds geoscientific significance. Central to the protected area is the Hüttenbläserschachthöhle, a largely natural large cave and an important FFH site. It serves as a vital refuge and a crucial wintering ground for bats, amphibians, and insects, including rare troglobiont species. The protection of the caves encompasses their unique microclimatic conditions and water balance.
