Popis

The Rheinaue Binsheim nature reserve protects diverse habitats essential for wild plants and animals. Its rich structural variety provides vital breeding, feeding, resting, and overwintering grounds for numerous rare and endangered bird species in its grasslands, hedges, and along riverbanks. Amphibians utilize the small bodies of water for spawning. The area's old, species-rich woody plants, traditional pollard landscapes, and orchards serve as crucial nesting sites for cavity-nesting birds, representing important cultural-historical documents. The summer dike and riverbanks are botanically significant. As a near-natural Rhine floodplain, it offers high development potential in its undisturbed areas and contains important archaeological ground monuments. The reserve is valued for its rarity, unique character, and the outstanding beauty of its extensive, diverse floodplain landscape, a hallmark of the Lower Rhine region.
