The An der Roesenbecker Burg nature reserve safeguards unique secondary biotopes, which have developed from former agricultural use and a historic Diabas quarry. These diverse habitats are crucial for numerous endangered and critically endangered animal and plant species. A permanently forested area in the southeast further contributes to the diversity and stability of these valuable habitats. A key feature is the former Diabas quarry, preserved as a geologically significant outcrop. This area is an important component of the European ecological network "Natura 2000", specifically as part of the FFH area "Beech forests and scree slopes at the 'Weiße Frau'". Furthermore, it belongs to the Birds Protection Area "Diemel- and Hoppecketal with adjacent forests", highlighting its importance for species conservation. Here, threatened species find a secure refuge and essential living conditions.
