Südperd is a significant cape on southeastern Rügen, integrated into the Mönchgut Nature Reserve and the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve. This prominent landform features the Lotsenberg, rising over 35 meters above sea level, topped by the 34-meter-high Lotsenturm, a notable landmark. The area presents a dramatic coastal setting, bordered by the Baltic Sea to its east and south. Südperd offers unique views over the entrance to the Greifswalder Bodden. The diverse coastline extends northwards along a long east beach and southwestwards to the Endhaken. Protection primarily preserves the exceptional coastal geomorphology, including dynamic cliffs and unique beach formations. It also safeguards maritime habitats and the specific flora and fauna adapted to these exposed conditions, ensuring the natural integrity of this valuable Baltic Sea ecosystem.
