Popis

The Katzenbacherhang nature reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate preserves a unique, near-natural oak-hornbeam forest. This valuable ecosystem provides habitat for a diverse array of specialized animal and plant communities. A primary purpose of protection is the long-term safeguarding of these characteristic forest communities, known for their biodiversity and ecological importance. Furthermore, a section is designated as a natural forest cell to allow for undisturbed observation and scientific research into the forest's natural development. This provides crucial insights into the dynamics and resilience of near-natural forests. The area thus contributes significantly to the protection of biological diversity.
