Heilige Hallen is a captivating natural forest reserve located within the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park. This ancient beech forest provides a sanctuary for impressive old-growth trees, some reaching up to 350 years in age and 53 meters in height. The substantial amount of deadwood present is vital for countless organisms, highlighting the forest's untouched natural development. The name "Heilige Hallen," meaning "Holy Halls," originated in the mid-19th century, reflecting the forest's once hall-like appearance. Today, it stands as a vibrant mosaic of woodland and wetlands. The area also encompasses several "Sölle" (kettle holes), distinctive glacial formations where serene ponds, valuable kettle bogs, and characteristic birch-swamp forests have flourished. This special place safeguards not only its unique beech forest but also a diverse wetland landscape, recognized for its significant ecological value.
