Gutower Moor und Schöninsel is a significant nature reserve preserving the unique landscape southwest of Güstrow. Its primary purpose is the conservation and development of the western part of Inselsee, the charming Schöninsel situated within the lake, and the adjacent fen (Durchströmungsmoor). This mosaic of aquatic and wetland habitats provides a critical sanctuary for a multitude of plant and animal species. The area serves as an essential resting and feeding ground for various migratory birds, including large populations of geese and ducks, highlighting its importance for waterfowl.
