The Tre Cime Nature Park covers almost 12,000 ha and forms the north-eastern cornerstone of the Dolomites. The main accesses to the self-contained massif lead through the Valle della Rienza (Dobbiaco) in the west, the Valle Campo di Dentro (San Candido) in the northeast and the Val Fiscalina (Sesto) in the east. In the south, the nature park ends at the provincial border with Belluno. The Nature Park is notable for its rugged landscape and famous peaks and mountains, and above all for the world-renowned Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The vast hiking path network in the nature park, covering some 175 km, dates partly back to the First World War. The nature park was founded in 1981, and covers an area of 11.878 ha, which is spread across the municipalities of Dobbiaco, Sesto and San Candido. The Nature Park is part of the European-wide Natura 2000 sites and is also part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tre Cime Nature Park - The loneliness of luminaries The Tre Cime Nature Park forms the north-eastern cornerstone of the Dolomites. The magnificent mountain landscape of the Dolomiti di Sesto with its numerous vertical rock faces and striking peaks has always fascinated climbers from all over the world. The vast hiking path network in the nature park, covering some 175 km, dates partly back to the First World War. Today, it offers unforgettable hiking and mountain experiences. World-famous mountain peaks such as the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Punta dei Tre Scarperi or of the Sesto sundial dominate the highest elevations. There follow striking debris flows and extensive alpine grass mats, especially around the heart of the nature park, the high plateau of the Tre Cime. Along the slopes you immerse yourself in deep green coniferous forests, the most important landscape element in South Tyrol. At the end of the wide forest belt, light flooded larch meadows are inserted in several places. This man-made habitat can be admired at the entrance to the Campo di Dentro and Fiscalina valleys. The nature park was founded in 1981, and covers an area of 11.878 ha, which is spread across the municipalities of Dobbiaco, Sesto and San Candido. The conservation side is bounded to the north by the Pusteria valley, to the east by the Sesto valley, to the south by the provincial border with Belluno, and to the west by the Landro valley. The park is part of the European-wide Natura 2000 sites, which aim to promote habitat, flora and fauna conservation and were established under the EU’s FFH Directive (92/43/EC) and Bird’s Directive (2009/147/EC). The nature park is also part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site.
